Soviet People of the 1960s

In the 1960s, while all of the world was hooked on Beatles and fighting for world piece and various freedoms, Soviet people had their own stuff to be proud of. Most of this pride revolved around the first man in space: Yuri Gagarin. But that doesn’t mean that Soviet life was all boring. They didn’t have any hippies, but girls were oh-so-beautiful.

You can see it with your own eyes in our selection of the best photos from Life magazine’s called “Russian People and Progress.”

This is living proof that Russians smile. However, the 60s seem to be the only post-war decade when people had something to smile about.

Not much is known about Max Bears, except for his obsession with the Russian language and Apple products. Sometimes seen on a bicycle around downtown Moscow, he is indistinguishable from the wild bears that roam the streets of Russia's capital.
